Had just taken off from a dinner stop and noticed my speedo wasn't working. Occasionally it does this! Usually by stopping everything, turning key off and on it starts up again. So no big deal. Then about 2 minutes later riding down the road cruising at about 50mph the yellow idiot light comes on. WTF? OK, pull over immediately, shut it all down, nothing seems amiss. Start it up again, light goes off, stays off for remainder of ride. AND speedo starts to work again.

Check and see if there are any codes. I had a misfire, and the light would come on and go away. One of my plug wires had pulled off the coil a bit!

 

have the same problem with my bike ive cleared the codes before and it took care of it but the last time the bike got rained on the same problem came back engine light comes on speedometer stops working even the light on the speedometer doesn't light up but when you slow down under 25 mph the speedometer starts to work light comes back on but the yellow engine lights comes on also speed up and it all goes off again.did the code check po 563 come up witch is supposed to be high voltage .this is really pis---ng me off !!!!! any one else have this problem or any solutions to get ride of it any info would be greatly appreciated .

 

mine did this when i did my speedo relocate mod b/c i started bike up without the speedo on for a few minutes. clear the codes and see if it does it again. if it does read the code it is giving you and search it on here https://www.hdforums.com/forum/dyna-...lear-them.html yes i know it says dyna but i used these steps and codes and it worked good

There's a Sticky at the top of this section that tells you how to do it.

Speedo not working, or intermittent...

If I remember correctly, having read this here somewhere ... On late models you need to clean the pickup sensor attached to the transmission. It's magnetic and designed to help remove metal debris. It needs to be kept clean, especially if your speedo begins to fault.

Ok, two of you helped me here, so thank you both! The code was for "VSS low" - vehicle speed sensor, so I looked it up in my service manual and cleaned it as recommended here!

that'll fix the problem, lol!! seriously what about the diagnostics part? just asking....
