Whats the easiest way to remove the gas tank trim ring on a 05 1200C. I want to remove it and have some custom painting done on the top of my tank. I have never liked the looks of the stock trim piece. I believe it is held on with an adhesive.

I have run across others who have removed this trim. General consensus seems to be the use of monofilament fishing line inserted under an edge of the trim at one end and a gentle but firm back-and-forth motion (like sawing) down the trim to other end of the trim to remove it. I believe most then have cleaned up any of the sticky residue left on the tank with WD-40 rather than the more aggressive "OOPS" or similar products.

Good luck...
