Default Engine guard installation question

Hi all,

I am brand new to owning a bike and want to install an engine guard on my 2010 Sportster XL883L Low. The directions state to remove the two electrical connections from the back of the horn. Can't I just remove the screws and washers that attach the horn bracket to the downtubes? What is the purpose of removing the electrical connections?

Thank you,
Danielle

I always follow HD's instructions to the letter even if they seem extra precautionary. I suspect it relieves them of liability if you were to create a spark and fry your computer. Better safe than sorry...

Probably liability, as stated. I know ours came with the crash bars... er... "frame extensions" and know for a fact that the horn still is connected. I know, because I used it to scare the crap out of Tiffany when she was looking the bike over real good. ;+)

Probably becuase if you don't disconnect it, it will be hanging there by the wires, in the way while you try to do the rest of the install. No other reason.

Mine came with the guard. When I took it off, I left the wires connected. No issues! If memory servers correctly, the bottom bolt was the most difficult to remove and reinstall .. overall entire job took under 30 minutes.

I reckon Daddy-O got it right.

Danielle, in the time since you posted your message you could have done this job by the letter and be out riding. How did you get on?!
