I dealt with the severe winds for the first time the other day and it totally SUCKED. I was only going about 50mph and was fighting just to stay in my lane. I had to slow down to avoid being pushed into the median. It was not a good feeling at all, but is definitely manageable if you slow down and adjust.

Default dynamic gyroscopic balancing to consider

if you add tire goop to your tires which is for flats it also will liquidly balance the wheels giving you greater gyroscopic torque which will help keep you both upright and running in a straight line in cross winds especially are road speed ... I learned this from another biker and it is impressive the improvement

After working at a tire store, and seeing what this stuff does to the inside of a rim, and how squishy it will make a valve stem over time, there is now way i would ever put that crap in my tire unless an absolute emergency. We have literally seen fix-a-flat eat the aluminum on the inside of a rim so bad that the rim had to be replace.

I hate the wind too. My bike on the highway with the stock lops up front and back seem to shimmy on the road..kinda scary. My back tire is being replaced next week with a ME 880 so hopefully that will help.

Once I was riding downtown in between tall buildings on a windy day...surely enough the buildings acted like a gully and a very strong wind blasted from the left and it felt like my bike was lifted, swung in the air a couple of inches high and dropped back on the road...scared the **** out of me!

Several times also the wind blasts almost transfered me to the next line...

Counter steering will control even strong winds.

I've had some issues with the wind.......it's scary.
For me it usually starts pushing me in the opposite lane no matter how hard I push to turn.

It causes the bike to lean as if it's already turning and with my pushing causes it to lean more making it feel as if the bike might slip out from underneath me. I usually do the same thing you did and slow down and ease it back.

here is a grainy cell pic of the road in question. notice that there is less than 3 feet of sloped grass on the guardrail side and even less of a sloped mound leading directly down in to the marsh on the other side.
the limit is 55mph.
basically, if you get near the white line you are nearly done for.
hence my concern the other day.

Look where you want to go.... If the side of the road is freaking you out and you are looking at it you will eventually wind up on it.
