I bought my son a helmet from my local cycle gear store a couple years ago knowing he would outgrow it and then we pass it down to his little brother....it's a HJC if you want the model number let me know and I will get it out and look for you....nice helmet and I would also recommend goign to the store to fit him right way....as far as harness I have never used one but here is one that wraps around you then gives him to handles to hold onto....looks like it would give you a little low back support too.....

This is the rule I go by, "If they can't reach the pegs, they don't ride."

Wound up going to the Honda joint up the road. Tried the full face on him .. smallest one seemed like it fit good till I had him shake his head back n forth. The thing twisted around so it was sideways on his head.

We moved over to the motocross helmets .. much tighter fit. Also, my boy liked the graphics more. He chose one that was covered in demon faces that complimented the colors of my bike. The faces have glowing orange eyes and everything is reflective for good night visability.

Gotta say it was a pretty good father/son time picking out his first helmet.

Have you tried an extra small? Check out the metric dealerships. They usually carry a large supply of full faced lids, and if they see you ride in on a Harley they will likely be asking you to tell stories of how the real men ride a motorcycle! ;+)

Make sure it is DOT and Snell (full faced) approved.

I would advise against a harness, for the same reason that my Kubota recommends that the driver does not wear a seatbelt when the ROPS (Roll Over Protection System- i.e. roll bar) is in the down position. In the event that you spill, you don't want the little fellar to get caught under the bike. Better to have him roll free than to be stuck with a flipping 600lbs. bike. Just teach him to hold on to you tight and you should be fine.

we got the helmet in the pics .. it is DOT and he loves it .. wore it home from the store friday night and had it on saturday while riding his bike. was hoping my mustang would have arrived already, but not yet .. cannot get him on til it arrives.

As for the request on the harness, I was thinking about one that strapped us together, not strapping him to the bike ...

Really cool helmet. That is a wonderful feeling, too, getting that first one together. The two of you will have some wonderful memories of riding together, now, and you may well have created a rider for life.
