Default 48 speedo mount install - Iron

After waiting a month and a half for my back-order 48 speedo mount I finally have it in my hands. Searching through the forum i have read a few different modifications to make it work on my stock risers, some have ground down the mount and others have ground down the risers to make it fit.

for those that have done this, which is the best method and did any of you take pictures along the way?

This is my weekend project, so any help would be welcomed.

My buddy did the mod for me, ground down the risers to fit the 48 clamp. I did not use the OEM risers though as it would not clear the headlamp visor. I am not sure if you have the stock headlight set up though. 3.5 inch risers to clear it.

I have pics of the speedo on there finished, bot nothing of the machined risers.

I did this same mod just last week, unfortunately I didn't take any pics of the risers after I re-shaped them. I did exactly like Warrick said (thanks for your help again Warrick) I used 3.5" risers, I have an oscilallating belt sander that I used to re-shape the top inside curve of each riser and then used a Dremel to notch out a thin portion that was left in order for it to fit the 48 bracket. If you have new risers and hold them up against the bracket you'll see exactly what needs to be ground off to make it fit. Using the belt sander took a little while to get it where it needed to be but over all it wasn't that bad, i was a little nervous going into this, but once I started like I said it was obvious what and how much needed to be re-shaped. I then sanded them, primed and re-painted them. I found some shorter bolts since the risers I got didn't have holes all the way through like the stock risers and the stock bolts were bottoming out before it was clamping down completely. I feel your pain on waiting for the 48 bucket, nobody had one, but my dealer found one for me out of West Virginia so I didn't have to wait too long, but it was definitely worth the wait, looks great.
