Default Gas Tank Upgrade

Hey folks, I've got a '91 Sportster with the tiny peanut tank on it. I get about 80-90 miles out of a tank before I get nervous.

Anyone out there go to a bigger tank? I know the larger peanut fits fine, but not that much bigger.

Just curious as to what has worked for you.

I can weld and stuff, but no "from scratch" fabrication.

I know you can buy a 4.2 gal tank for the newer sporties, but not sure how much of a problem it would be to retro fit it to your bike. May look into it. I honestly have no idea, just a suggestion.

they make a "porkster" tank for that 91 ..
holds about four gallons.
personally ,I like the 2.2 on my 91..
makes me get off the bike before it erases my "sitting parts"

i have a 91 as well, it has a 3.3 gal fat bob tank on it. The speedo mounts on the tank. I have a pic in my form garage. You can get the kit from J&P.

Good hunting

I did a porkster tank on my 92 from jp part number 720-107. It came in rust filled I took it to get sealed at a radiator shop ran 120, paint 800, petcock 17 from jp fuel line for cross over lines 4 fuel line for tank to carb 5 go with the 1/4 fuel line to run from petcock to carb the petcock is on the opposite side of your carb. You will need a 4 inch riser for your bars and a signal relocation kit. You have to take the bars off the riser and shift them up a bit to get the tank on but after that its just direct bolt on.
