Default Oil Leak?

I just bought a 2000 sportster 1200c with 4000mil on it. now more than I got it home oil started leaking from the front left corner of the front cylinder. has anyone experienced this same problem? I guessing it is just the rocker box gasket but wanted to make sure it wasn't something else causing the problem before I replace the gasket.

Yes, it's probably just a rocker cover leak. However, we'd be able to tell 100% with a picture. It's a simple fix, and can be done in under two hours for a rookie with the right tools & manual.

I bought my 2002 and it did that first thing too. It didn't help the previous owner filled the oil bag to "full" while it was cold after long storage. I'm still cleaning oil up from that.

Does the leak look something like https://www.hdforums.com/forum/attac...k-im002744.jpg <-- that?? If so it is most definitely rocker box leaks.

yup- not hard to fix either... sorta common in the injected bikes cause we never really know when they are warmed up. really shouldnt twist the right hand too hard until the engine is warm- i was doing that too often. and that caused my gasket leak. i am a bit easier on the bike now until i know its warm. then look out --->
