I did a tail light set up for a cop here in my town and used a Maglight mounted to each fender strut. I took the flashlight stuff out and replaced with regular turn signal guts with red lenses and he used the ends that you would unscrew to change the batteries as stash tubes for his sunglasses & paperwork or whatever.
Anyway, the reason why I didn't mess with the flashlight bulb is because I was unsure of the voltage/amperage it could handle. I imaging it would work for a while but I don't know for how long. Also, flashlight bulbs don't last very long bouncing around and where you are talking about mounting yours is on the unsprung end of the shock so it's a harsh ride.
Other than that I have no input other than I think it looks cool.
