FYI: Removing baffles from stock pipes
I have seen allot of questions about removing the baffles on stock pipes. I recently had some one remove them from my 883C. A few things to note.
1. The sound is awesome! It sounds like a tank with a very deep rumble at idle. It's a little louder than I like but the sound is great!
2. The 2006 sportsers have catalytic converters in the front pipe and it can not be removed. The person that did my stage one upgrade for me had another stock pipe that he put on the front then he drilled out the baffles from the rear.
3. The 2007 sportsters have catalytic converters in both pipes so using straight pipes on 2007 sportsters is out of the question unless you find pipes from an older sportster and use them.
I hope this helps some of you. I'm glad I did the stage one upgrade my bike runs a lot better, doesn't take as long to warm up, has more power and gets better gas mileage. I suspect this is the way Harley would have sold it to me if they didn't have to comply with the idiotic environment legislation.

RE: FYI: Removing baffles from stock pipes
i have my stock set of pipes and a couple of weeks ago decided to drill out the baffles,i went through all the trouble to put them on my bike and i thought they sounded terrible.they were very quiet at idle and made it sound like a jap bike..my question to you is did you put some kind of staight pipe inside the stock pipes because the packing is still in there after the baffles are removed?if not i cant imagine they sound any better than mine did..i put my seIIs back on right away and will never be using my stock pipes again..

Lot's of GREAT information, and I'm glad you're happy with the results! I've got a question though. You say, "...I'm glad I did the stage one upgrade my bike runs a lot better...", but you don't say anything about re-mapping the EFI or opening the intake. Did you do either of these two things or just open the pipes?

i have my stock set of pipes and a couple of weeks ago decided to drill out the baffles,i went through all the trouble to put them on my bike and i thought they sounded terrible.they were very quiet at idle and made it sound like a jap bike..my question to you is did you put some kind of staight pipe inside the stock pipes because the packing is still in there after the baffles are removed?if not i cant imagine they sound any better than mine did..i put my seIIs back on right away and will never be using my stock pipes again..

Yes he rejetted the carb and added the SE air cleaner and took the back off of the air intake. It's a 2006 so it isn't FI las year for the carb!

Why didn't you just remove the baffles from your SE-IIs? All it takes is removing two small bolts and using a coat-hanger to pull them out. They go in just as easily if you don't like the sound.

He drilled everything out. I'm serous when I say it sounds like a tank. At idle it is a very deep sound. Like I said they are louder than I wanted them to be when you hit the throttle. Not sure of the difference between the stock pipes and slip-ons but mine sound deeper than any slip-ons I have heard.
