Yeah, I got that but they are wrong and I will tell you why. I live at 7240ft above sea level so you lose about 24% of your horsepower/torque to altitude so a 883 at sea level has about the same HP/TQ as 1200 up here and my wifes trike has NO problem moving the extra weight (~230lbs). You want to take my word for it or from someone that didn't build, own and ride a Sportster trike for over the past year (and the bike prior to the conversion)? So yeah the 883 will do the job just fine!

Thanks, yeah MC Worx actually makes the Frankenstein trike kits so I went directly to them. Some of the rear end parts are Ford 9" rear end. They are not cheap but it was installed in less than 10 hours (even comes with loctite and all hardware) with common hand tools, so if you can't weld and do fabrication the other kits will cost you more in the long run. I think the Frankenstein kit is one of best looking ones out there. It looks factory not a after thought like a lot of the other kits out there.

Looks like quality stuff. Do not listen to the guys that hate trikes. If you want a trike..thats what you want.
I would contact the folks that sale the kit and get their feedback on the power issue. I would be surprised if the 883 will not do fine with it, the torque will be more of a factor that the HP.

I see them all the time, there is a guy locally who has an 883 done and he seems to fly around just fine........sweet scoot you built the wife cotnballs! But yeah the 883 shouldn't have much issue with the trike kit
These guys may not have rode any but we got a Shadow 600 trike in at the car dealership I use to work at last year. Exactly like my Shadow 600 and there was no power drop. I drove it around and on the highway at 70 mph. Seemed to react just like my Shadow except the steering was weird.

The first Harley Davidson I ever rode was a trike, an old Police Harley. It was a hoot!
To those that ride trikes, more power to ya. Enjoy!

Hers another link to a kit where you don't have to remove the rear wheel and you can still get a little lean on the bike.
My wife wants to do the same thing.....

When I took the trike sidecar course there was a 75 year old lady that had one of these kits on a big Honda scooter. It looks like and for all practical purposes is training wheels. I would spend the extra grand get a Frankenstein.

Thanks guys for all the great comments and info. Like one of you said: If it keeps her riding then go for it. Well, from everything that has been said, I will be looking for a kit. Some suggested Frankenstein and I will certainly consider that. Snow is just leaving here; so, will look at ordering and then doing the install myself. Will keep everyone posted as to how things turn out. Ride on!
