Not so true I have a 2003 with a detachable sissy bar. You must tell EZ that is what you have. The bolts are longer to accompany the saddlebag and sissy bar docking components. You can run bar with bags, bar without, bags without bar, or nothing at all.

i bought some bags from wille and max also, you put them on in 5 minutes. basically you take off the seat, mount the bags on the fender then zip tie the bags to the springs. put the seat back on and away you go. they fit right behind the signals. you can adjust them with the leather strings if you need to pull them up or down so they are 1 inch above your muffler. to take them off you just cut the zip ties. Or you can get black velcro strips to put them on with so you can easily take them off. I tried that, but didnt really like it. I am too afriad with velcro straps they will come off and something will fall into the rear wheel and kill me, so i ziptie them on. Easy japanesy.

I meant saddlebag supports in general (the U-shaped ones), not EZ brackets. Sorry for the confusion.

From what I've heard the stay away brackets for throwovers are not happy with detachable sissy bars thus the reason for the EZ brackets. # 2 when bags are removed those butt uggly coat hangers are still on the bike, so endith the clean look. Throw overs without any thing can bitch up paint and get chaffed on shocks etc. Not all will, but just maybe the new ones you just got. EZ brackets keep everything away and it really shows from the rear, similar to stay away type brackets and even further with detachable sissy. but we were using them for function so a little yuk is tolerable
