I have a 91 1200 sporty and looking for exhaust for it was wondering if I could put on vance and hines shortshots. Thanks I'm open for suggestions on pipes for it. Don't want anything that is going to blue.

 

The position of the rear brake master cylinder will prevent 04 and newer exhaust from fitting your machine. Blueing is caused by the fuel mixture, not the pipe. If the carburetor is set lean (factory stock), the pipe will get to hot and turn blue. Use Blue Job chrome polish to remove any discoloring on chrome.

 

I have a 2003 883r and V&H doesn't make the shortshots for 2003 and older models. It is because the rear brake cylinder is in the way.

I was wondering why they didn't make the shortshots for 03 and later, because i really wanted some, but now i see. Is there any way to possibly relocate the master cylinder to make these pipes work?

 

I can't remember what the model is but I had Radii pipes on one of my 03's and they sucked.



You can move the master cylinder wherever you want but I think you'll also have to modify forward controls if you have them. If you can fab parts like that I think it would be much simpler to just make your own exhaust. If you'll be paying a shop to do the mods then I still think it would be cheaper & faster to just take your bike to a small exhaust shop & have them make what you want.
