No it is not true I just got back from a 698 mile trip and the ride was great. I have changed the seat to a sundowner seat that I got at HD Dealer. Had I known about the Mustang seat with the drivers back rest I would have got that seat. I did not like the stock seat though I did do a 400 mile trip on right after I bought the bike that is when I new I was going to get a different seat.

Check this seat out a little expensive.

The seat makes all the difference. I switched to a Sundowner on my XL1200L and could ride all day. With the factory seat on long trips I had to stop every 45 minutes on the return portion just to get the circulation back in my hind end.

The Sundowner for the 1200L (and C) pushes the driver up 1 inch which takes a little getting used to. I think they are $269 from the stealer right now, but you will see a tremendous difference.

The Sundowner is the way to go. Replace the stock seat on my 1200C a little over a year ago, Night and day difference.
I couldn't cost justfy paying double the cost for the Mustang. I will give you a tip though. If there are any swap meets in your area be sure to check those out. I have seen a lot of seats at swap meets in Atlanta and Daytona for as little as a $100 bucks.

Good luck with your search,

I have the sundowner -- it is really comfortable for both me and the passenger.. It sure is ugly though.

I'm 'different', as I've found the stock seat on the 1200C to be one of the most comfortable I've had on a Harley.

Lot's of 500+ mile days, and no problems at all. I'm right at 6'2", 185, 32" waist and the seat fits me perfectly. No plans on changing it.

Guess the 'comfort level' really depends on an individuals body shape, etc...
