Default Burly Mini Ape kit installed

I just finished installing HD 12 inch Mini apes on my Iron, using the Burly Kit which includes brake hose, clutch cable, throttle cables and all wire extensions including those for the turn signals. My shop says 7 hours. Took me 8 1/2 hours. I found the pin removal and reinstallation in the terminal blocks to be the hardest part. Those wire pins just didn't want to go back in correctly and line up. You definitely need a service manual. The Burly directions assume that you have one. You do not need to remove the gas tank, only raise it. Remember to identify the throttle cable position in the switchgear and the throttle body so you don't mix it up with the idle cable. You also do not need to remove the right side electrical caddy. Everything is accessible from the left side. Clutch adjustment in the primary went smoothly. As for the kit itself, the lines all seem to be longer than necessary, except for the throttle cables. Good if you want to move up to 14 inch apes later, but bad now cause you have to hide the excess wires and the clutch cable billows out a bit. It could stand to be 2 inches shorter. Also they don't give you nice new plastic wire sheathing, only big heat shrink tubing to fit all the extended wires in, which it didn't on the left side. Home Depot supplied the larger heat shrink tube! Hope this helps any other novice mechanics out there like me.

Looking good, bro. I absolutely could not deal with those pin connectors when installing my 16"s, instead cut the wires and soldered in the extensions. What a PITA those connector pins were!

Just finished my 14" apes. The lines are a little long on that kit too. I was going to cut and solder the wires but decided I would do the pins and connectors just to see if I could do it. It was definitely a good challenge but wasn't too bad. Overall the project was pretty easy even though I'm not a mechanic by any means.
