Default drive belt breaking

I have a friend that has a 93 sportster that has broken 4 belts in the last year. I am going to put the belt on for him, my question is does anybody have any idea why it would be breaking belts. Thanks for any help.

Belt alignment. What I mean by that is if one of the adjusters is tighter then the other. This will cause the belt to rub on the pullys and copramise the belts integrity, or loose belt.

Also, belts and rocks/pebbles don't mix. 1 pebble caught between the belt and the pulley can snap a belt - that's the belt's biggest downside...

Before i bought my dyna i had a buell ulysses and one of the things they did for the ulysses was develop a new belt. This new belt was so good that they warrentied the belt for life, has anybody put a buell belt on a sporty. Thanks for all the replies, thats all the stuff i was thinking, i thought there may be something common to sportsters that i was unaware of. Thanks again
