Take care of yourself, I had a broken femur in 1979 and the same metal rod surgery so I know what you're going through. Medical developments have come a long way, I was in a cast for 6 months. It will heal, but it takes time. Don't push it.

That's a drag man, so sorry for your accident. I had an incident like your's last year [not an old person though, but a hot rod punk] and was down for 3 months, followed by 3 more of physical therapy.
I bought another bike as soon as the insurance money came thru on my totaled one, off of Craig's List. My old lady didn't even know I had got the money, let alone bought another scoot, until the ex-owner delivered it to the house one Saturday. It gave me a reason to try to recover even more quickly so I could get back riding [and out of the house if you know what I mean].
Physical therapy seemed useless at first, but it ultimately did more for me than the 2 surgeons did. The PT's actually cared about me versus the surgeons who just see you as a pay check, not a human being. Get with their program, believe you'll get better, you will, and you'll be up and around quicker than you think. Stay strong.

Sorry to hear this - get well soon! When you ride, try to anticipate the unbelievable, because sooner or later it will happen. Taking the guy's license will only reduce the bad drivers out there by .000001%. People of all ages don't see us and you have to ride based on that premise. I was rear-ended by a 20-year old female at a red light. As soon as the light turned green she just hit the gas even though no one in front of her was yet moving. Go figure!

Heal up and be defensive...
