I'm 5'-9", I ride with 16's. They are perfect for me. It also depends on what seat you have. Mine is the stock(very thin)seat, maybe 2" overall in thickness.

Burly makes a kit specifically for 16" apes on a sporty. Call the shop Monday and we can get one out to you. they are $189.

I'm looking for apes as well. I'm in the process of buying a nightster and I'm a little concerned with finding the right height for me. I'm 6'1 so I was looking at 14 or 16 .

If you're going with the Burly Kit, I feel as if the clutch cable is a bit long. I put 12" bars on my bike with the Burly 12" kit and the clutch/idle are fine, the brake is a hair long and the clutch is pretty long. I've routed everything so it looks good, but I still feel they are a bit long in some areas.

skorch, 16" will be fine for you.
Ha.
I agree. I emailed Burly to get the actual length of the cables for a mock-up but they never got back to me.
