#22
The service will prolly fix It
4,600 miles,,,
IDK what the dealer will actually do,,
But If It was me,,
I'd take It straight home after the 5k service and,,,
clean the air filter,,,If they didn't,,
Re-Gap and clean the plugs...If they didn't,,
Check the clutch adjustment,,per the service book,,Oh yeah Get one.
And then strap a 1 gallon plastic gas can on the back end, Fill the tank
and go run It dry.
So's I'd know I had fresh gas an ta See what miles I got,,
EFI bikes,,the fuel pump takes up about .2 to.3 gallons of gas area.
My 4.5 gallon tank holds 4.2 from dry..
My fuel light always comes on ABOUT right, same every time,,
I see the light and It holds 3.3 gallons,,
2008 1200R,,avg fuel mpg : City 37ish,,Superslab 49ish at 75 mph,,,
Average all around riding,,,43 mpg..
Tank range,,120-160 miles

Iron883man, bud, I think you're confusing all of us. I'm going to question the above. Is the oil light on when the bike idles, but you're not riding. If so, crappy gas mileage shouldn't be your main concern right now. That light better go off and stay off as soon as it fires up. If it doesn't and the oil level's right, you should take it to the dealer ASAP before engine damage occurs.

you mentioned s.e. pipes were added, but you didn't mention if it was remapped or not. pulll the plugs and check the color. i would bet they are black. install new plugs and an s.e. a/c kit. i went thru the same thing. did the slip on mods, and lost mileage. going with the standard s.e. filter kit got me back on track with mileage, got rid of the popping, a nice light brown plug burn, and no remap.

pretty much what everyone said ... just wanted to add that when I bought my bike used, the original warranty was up .. I bought the extended serv plan that was available since I bought it at a HD dealer. I figured I really didn't know anything about the bike and if something happened I was not ready for an "as-is" repair bill. I bought the 1 yr policy. My documentation states that as long as the bike is under 10 yrs old and under 75,000 miles, I can continue to renew the plan. If you only have 1 month left on your warranty (I am presuming the remaining original warranty) talk to the dealer about the extended plan. At least a year to give you time to get to know your bike and feel it out. However, you have to buy the policy at least 5 days before the original expires. or you are nolonger eligible. -- and that is printed in black white and orange in the HD Part II brochure attached to my contract.

It don't add up for me.Bad mileage coming from a former Jap bike owner, higher gas prices and commuting in DC in 30 degree mornings.Oh and a newbie.I personally won't ride in under freezing temps.Maybe this all adds up for everyone else but not me.I won't get into my entire thought process on this. However I will add nothing was stated by him in a common sense manner. He is getting 14.8 MPG by his story. In DC he can't be at full throttle.I went there to a bar before.
