Did I really need it?
I got a screamin eagle ignition module at the advice of a friend who is a harley mechanic. I did the carb rebuild, slow jet etc, also did straight pipes with good baffles and heat wrap. My question is did I really need to spend the 100+ on th ig-mod? And if I did what benefits does it give? My buddy said just do it, it needs it.

i need you to go to the bank and withdraw 5 grand and send it to me. i'll pm you my address. thanks.
seriously.....shouldn't you have asked those questions before you bought it? i'm sure it won't hurt but if there was nothing wrong with your ignition and the bike ran fine you should have kept your orig. ignition unless you wanted the added performance gain.

On the serious side which module is it?
Typically after market modules give you options to be adjusted for better performance.
I like the quicker start, faster acceleration, and an overall better pull and top speed of the Crane HI4e I have on mine. It allows for a hotter spark, better balance between cylinder firing and allows you to set the top end rev beyond the 5,200 rpms most factory modules limit you too before the motor shuts down (red line).

The mechanic that built my bike couldn't get it to run right without it. The Dyna 2000i is crazy good and totally programmable! I have the SE Pro BBK w/ SE Pro cams, SE AC, jetted carb, SE coil, plugs and wires, SEII 2-1 exhaust, SE clutch kit. Dude went all out. Love to see how it compares to a stock Sporty
All upgrades are worth it...they all add up.
