$15 do-it-yourself chameleon paint job
For the past few weeks I have contemplated an ordinary rattlecan paint job on my bike. I got a little sick of all the black my bike had. Spray paint has evolved so much in the last 15 years - the possibilities for a neat scheme are almost endless. I searched all the main automotive spots for a neat color and came up empty handed. For a while, I decided - 'fvck it'.
Then last Friday after work I swung by Lowes. Figuring they wouldn't have anything eye catching, I stopped anyway. I couldn't believe it when I saw a relatively new product by Rustoleum called 'COLORSHIFT'. It's kind of like House of Kolors Kameleon paints, but it a spray can. CRAZY! They have two colors. Gamma Green and Galaxy blue. Partial to green, that's what I chose.
I wet sanded my tank with 400 grit and went to town. The directions said to spray it over a black basecoat. I sanded through some of my original black, so I had to respray. All I had in the garage was a flat brown. I just figured I'd wing it - so I did. I was too lazy and excited to see the outcome to wanna go out and buy black paint. Also, brown is on the yellow side of the color wheel, so I figured the green would compliment it nicely.
I think it turned out pretty sweet for costing a mere $15 for the paint. I used one can. It lasted 5 coats on the tank. Be careful. This stuff lays like clearcoat, so it's very easy to run it! Talk about a neat paint job ANYONE can afford!

Awesome! Looks like a spray gun paint job, at least in the pics. Did you spray a clear coat too because it sure has a glossy look? Hard to imagine that could come from a rattle can!
Is that a new product from Rustoleum? Don't remember seeing it before, and I'm a big time Lowesaholic. Hope they come out with some other colors too, like a black that changes to gold or silver. I'd be all over that like stink on sh*t.
In the 80's, had my Chevelle painted with I think it was called Imron. Red but transitioned to orange in the right light. Totally cool, but totalled it driving like a dumbass. Always regret that night.
