Default Windshield on my Forty-Eight

Ok, so after doing a few different searches today on this and other forums I am now more confused about a windshield than ever.

At first, I was looking at the Flyshield. Its small and I read someplace that its actually functional. Then I read its was for looks only, and I cant see spending 125 dollars of my new exhaust money toward it if I can't count on it to stop the freeway blast.

Then I looked at the HD quick disconnect. The way I see it is that it (IMHO) adds to the old school look quite a bit more than the flyshield. Yeah, its alot more money, but E-Bay is my friend...as is Craigslist.
I went to the HD build a bike website and added the screen and luggage rack, and kinda liked what I saw: a Retro HD.

Now I see that the windscreens can actually add turbulance and not help with the wind blowing me off the bike. I know that the thick bike gloves I used to ride my new bike home definately didn't help with the feeling of barely hangin' on...esp with oncoming traffic!

I dont know what to do now.

Help?

The turbulence people talk about is right on your forehead. You will definitely benefit from having a windshield, it makes riding much more comfortable. I have a HD w/s on my XLCH, I cut it down about 4 inches from standard height, it's more a fairing than a windshield IMO, you look well over the top of it. I have a fairing on my XL Low and again getting that pressure off your chest makes a big difference.

I bought the HD quick disconnect compact version that hits me about chin height. While it keeps the major wind off my chest on the freeways, the turbulence hits me on the back of the head, not the forehead. It's annoying so I don't use it except on cold or windy days. I too wish I could find something that would work better for me.

i just put this fairing on my bike last weekend. it was just under 50* and i was able to take a ride with no gloves and no leather coat. no wind on my chest on hands. just the wind on the forehead.

Windshields are nice to have on hand. I have one form my 1200C and use it a few times a year either when its really cold out, below 40, or on longer road trips. The top of mine is right around eye level, I'm 5 11. The only buffeting that happens is when I wear a half helmet. When I dont wear one, theres no buffeting. I say get one.

Damn, that's good deal, was it used? I paid 800 for mine, shipped, about three years ago.

yea, it was used. i think they go for like $795 new and then what ever shipping would be. i watched ebay for the last 4 months when i found this one. yours looks good. mine was a gloss black but i found the paint here local that matchs the black denim and painted the outer and left the inner gloss black. and it is detachable so if i wanted i could take it off in about 3 minutes. but i kinda liked it after the first ride and dont think it will be coming off any time soon.
