awesome write up on this bike bingo53. it is indeed a rare beauty. my 78 xl was the 75 th aniversary addition, but i replaced the 2.2 gal peanut tank with a mustang, made a hard tail with sprung solo seat out of the frame and other mods, looking back on it now, i really wished that i kept her stock, heck i really wished that i kept her, period.. but the wife could not handle the p-pad for too long so i ended up parting with them both (wife eventually ha)..
anyway good story on a good bike.

I bought it and think I will sell the hard bags and mounts. These are factory 1977 bags that were painted black a few years ago. I was told they are very rare and expensive. I will sell the bags for $700.00. I also will be selling the sissy bar, $55.00. Email is smokiebear1@excite.com or call at (419)485-0221

I like my seat for the looks but its hard and has piping around the edges so that and the vibrations after 50 miles your ready for a smoke break.

If your not hurt'n for cash I would hold on to the bags, they are a rare part of HD history. If I were in your shoes that Bike would go back to as stock as possible.

you have 1 of 1099 made, wonder how many are still around

just my thoughts

I have a '77 XLCH and it's a kick-a** bar hopper. Previous owner blew the tranny (the notorious 3rd-gear "bug") but had it rebuilt right. My 2005 XL1200R is my main ride but for short hops and stress-reducing fun, the '77 is my go-to ride. The IH's are tempermental compared to the EVO Sporty, but there's a certain charm to them...
