They keep the bugs off. Of course if you're putting them on the end of those apes, they're just going to be whacking you in the face.
Seriously though...only decorative.

get the neon pink ones. and get a plastic wicker basket to put on the handlebars while you are at it.

don't forget the 'Disney Princess' bell too.
