Default Weighing out my Options..

So, I have a bike for me on hold on BASE through the Military Exchange New Car/Harley sales program and, the decision to buy it was definitely on an IMPULSE once I saw and sat on it. I have been wanting to learn how to ride and realized the Sportster family of bikes is definitely for me once I saw all the stuff you can do to customize a Sporty. My riding experience before this past week was ZERO. I took the MSF course the base offers as a requirement to ride on base and since I am overseas this is the only option I have to learn how to ride and get my stateside endorsement through the mail. In short, the 2 day MSF course was too fast paced for me and I did not get a PASS at the end. I was too nervous at the final riding test and I ****ed it all up. (BTW, **** that double U-Turn inside the box.)

This is the first BRC of the short riding season here and I'm afraid I won't get another chance to it again this year because I have so much going on in my at work this year and I have a newborn. Now I am faced with a potential problem if I am already locked in to my purchase. I have not finished the financing and have not signed any final paperwork so I am actually not sure If I am locked in. As embarrassing as this situation is, I am actually hoping I can back out of the deal and cut my losses this year.

Sorry to here that buddy! Maybe you should look into buying a real cheap used bike (something that can be dumped) and learn to rider that first. That's how and why i started on dirt bikes, but i was 12 when i started doing that...so ive had alot of years learning!

Yeah the Box,,I called It a figure 8 in the box. The Double U-turn
I was in a small class of 8 riders,,The Instructor saw two struggle with that.
At the end of the second day right before the test the 6 of us who had a
handle on that told the Instructor we'd take a bench and let him work the two who had probs...
We did,,
He did,,
They passed,,,
The secret to that box,,,,,
Turn head AND shoulders,,,
Stay IN the friction zone on the clutch,,
Keep some rev's up,,a spinning flywheel Is a gyroscope
With the rev's up all ya gotta do Is let out a tiny bit of clutch
If the bike starts to fall..
Power stands the bike up.

Two of us who had bikes before,,we turned those tiny buel's
almost against the steering locks,,several feet extra room in the box.

A Sportster needs a extra foot to turn, cause you don't throw a 600 Lbs
bike onto the steering stop.

If you get clear of the deal wait till you get stateside,,buy a cheap POS used dirt bike.
Compaired to street riding Dirt Is painless,,, brings on many changes
Teaches balance,,

Yep, that was one of my thoughts was to just wait until I get stateside and buy used. But, I don't go back for another 3 years.

Don't need no msf to get down In the Dirt.
You Master a dirt bike and you'll get bored to death doin the MSF rider test.
The Box won't mean nuttin.

So I talked to the Harley guy on Base today, I was able to back out of the deal and I am putting my small down payment into a program called the Dream Builder Advantage. It's basically a savings account that I pay into for a minimum of six months and a max of 3 years and I can put it towards a bike of my choice. Right now he has me down for a 2012 Nightster but he assured me that there is no pressure and I can choose a different bike or choose to keep paying into the account next year. Also, now I can really take my time and truly decide which Sportster is for me. I almost felt like I rushed the whole purchase now that I think of it.
