Default SE drop in cams on a 1200..worth doing?

would putting a set of scremin eagle bolt in cams part # 25197-04 be worth the time and money on a 2008 1200c...i know it would have to get a fuel mapper but it already has a free flowing air cleaner and pipes...just wanting to know if adding cams to a sportster would give any seat of the pants feel...some people say yes and some no but they have never done it them selves...looking to hear from someone who has done this...i am only looking to hear about cams...not head work and so on...thanks for any input!!

the cam your looking at is for 4500 + rpm , SE cams wont try to pull you off the bike , but they do give a nice pull , # 25649-01A FOR 2000-6500 RPM...

To answer your question....NO. If you want to know the reason why....read on.

I was talking to one of the owners of Zippers just last week about this. This is not a quote, this is what I took away from the conversation. cams with no headwork is a waste of money. They will give you a little extra performance (maybe slightly noticiable)but you won't get your money's worth unless you do the headwork, ignition and tune it properly.

I know you said you didn't want to hear about head work but it is a major factor in performance upgrades. You alreaday run a 1200, there are only so many options for seat of the pants pull. If you really want pull, go for a complete stage 2 upgrade.

I have always second guessed what people say about bolt in cams in the Sportster just because of the nice gains across the board people get in BTs with bolt in cams. I have seen a guy that used the Andrew's N4 bolt in cam in his '08 1200. He got a pretty good boost above 5000rpm. It raised his max HP from 80 to 88. But below 5000rpm he was making the exact same power as stock. He thought it was well worth it because that is how he likes to ride (close to the rev limiter), where as I do not think it is worth it because I hardly ever get over 4000rpm.

I think the difference in the BTs and the Sportster is the Sportster comes with a mid range power cam from the factory where the BT comes with a low end power cam.

that is a good point fox...about the BT coming with a more low end cam and the sporty coming with more a mid range cam.

Yeah the BT's seem do gain more with a cam upgrade, but the 1200 would still net some gains, but like was said head work and cams is the way to go since they go hand in hand and will net the most gain. My XL50 1200 with PC III and a dyno tune, pipes and AC runs like a champ ans pulls very hard. If you dad does not have a tuner of some sort, maybe he should start there.
