Default Sputter and backfire... help?!?!

I just replaced my hypercharger with a ness big sucker kit on my 98 sporty 1200. I just got off from a spin around the neighborhood and I could barely get on the throttle because it was sputtering and "hiccuping". There were also a few backfires out of the exhaust. Any suggestions. I mean it is only 28 degrees out but this was pretty bad. exhaust or intake gasket? spark plugs? carb needs rejetting? I dunno

sputtering and hiccuping when throttle is applied sounds like it is getting too much gas.

Well, I changed the fuel in the tank, the plugs and the exhaust gaskets. After another spin its missing and you can hear a "hiccup" out the air cleaner. Do you think its running too rich or too lean, should i have it rejetted??

I forgot to mention, this happens in low rpms, like when i get back on the gas after changing gears.

First, check for air leaks, if not that, check the jets, may need re-jetted. You did go to a way better breather.

If the bike was running fine with the hypercharger and began to run like schlitz with the ness, I would look there first. intake leak? i am simple minded though and always begin looking at problems where they start.

With it running, spray some carb and choke cleaner at the gaskets on the intake manifold, at the carb and on the jugs, the carb might not be seated right and the gaskets on the jugs might have gone bad if its been sitting all winter. spray only small squirts if it revs up you have a leak. It's a cheap and easy way to check.

Have you checked the color of your plugs?
