Sporty - to keep or not to keep
I now have a Sporty in my stable and need to ride her a couple of months to decide if it's really the right second bike for me. I say second bike because that's now as it is my 16th bike to have owned during my several years and 130,000+ miles of lifetime riding.
My first bike (and first Harley ever) is a 2009 Road Glide with S&S 106" Big Bore Kit, 570G cams, 89cc ported and polished diamond cut heads, RB Racing LSR Black Hole 2-1 exhaust system, all engine parts, bars and controls black powdercoated, a candy apple red paint job and about a million other things. Never knew owning and customizing a Harley could be so darn expensive.
I was looking for a second bike that was totally different than my RG. Because of some unusual business transactions I got a GREAT DEAL ($3575 actual cash out of pocket cost) on a 2007 Vivid Black XL 50 Sporty 50th Anniversary Limited Edition ( # 962 of 2000 ) with only 701 miles on her. The previous owner added forward controls and a quick release windshield. However, because I am a much oversized rider at 6'1" 260 lbs it may turn out that I feel and look like an elephant on a tricycle. I figure if the Sporty doesn't work for me comfort wise, because of the deal I got, it will be good trade material for a Dyna or Softail.
In having read this board for a while it is apparent that there are several real die hard Sporty owners (of course what else would one expect on a Sporty forum).
Because I like the Sporty's looks and it will be a second bike only I sure hope the ride and comfort works for me. I really would like to hang on to this one and may do so even if it turns out to not be exactly what I hoped it would be. I should get in a few miles this weekend to form my first opinion.

if you have the garage space, no reason to get rid of any bike, imo!
just gotta get a battery tender for each one (or one of the tenders that can tend several vehicles)- i have 2 cages and 2 bikes in the garage on tenders right now.
btw, awesome deal on that sporty you got- they are great round town bikes (actually i even like mine on the road now). sporty works for me up to a coupla hundred miles a day... and i know others would say a lot more than that. but if you have a real road bike (like you do) and a sporty, you are all set in my opinion.
let us know what you think after riding a few days- and post up pics of your stable!!
