Want my sportster to sound louder.

What ever you do be sure to save the stock parts. More and more governmental units are taking federal money to run motorcycle only check points.
If you get caught in one, you may get a ticket for non stock pipes as 100% of US states do not allow anything other than the original equipment with the EPA stamp on it.

The screeming eagle slipons are louder than stock but not that loud. My buddy has 'em on his Nightster and I don't think that they are loud enough...at least for the money.
This week I installed a pair of Cycle Shack slipons (MXL-130 SD) and they are LOUD. It took me all of 30 minutes. They are louder than a pair of V&H pipes I heard on an Iron and they are much, much cheaper. I picked mine up from Shane at www.sscustomcycles.com for less than I could find new anywhere else.

Drilling out or removing baffles have been debated a million times.
I drilled my stock ones out with no effect on the motor...the dealership even told me it wouldn't hurt the motor or void the warranty.
During Sturgis I got V&H slipons and they work great.
I wanted to keep my wrapped pipes and wanted something a little different than short shots.
I've been very happy with my choice.
The V&H rep told me I can always removed the baffles from the slip ons and make them even louder than the short shots. I haven't tried it though...just taking his word for it.
Here's a pic of mine, not the best because I had to have the bags and 2up seat on...sometimes you gotta carry more than just yourself...but it is at my favorite place

I think you're looking for that twin cam sound. You will never get that out've a Sportster. Here's the closest you will get to that sound. Vance&Hines Straightshots. I used to have Cycle Shacks, they just don't match up to the heat shelds and look like crap.

If I fire up the bike, it is difficult for anyone to stand behind it without putting their hands over ears.

cheap route would be to do what ammohouse mentioned, drill holes in the stock baffles. All you need is to buy a long drill bit. this way you can slowly drill out holes in the baffle until you like the sound. People also sell stock mufflers on ebay cheap. Pick up an extra set if you get a fix it ticket from the cops, which I really dont see happening.
