Do I need a windshield?

I'm in agreement with those that think sporty's look awful with a windshield, but being so small I decided to have one to help me on longer trips and on the open roads I take to work. Saves me from having to hang on for dear life when the wind is battering me at just 60mph.
Have to say it's the best thing I put on my bike. It's not a Harley one, but an aftermarket make and not too big as to look completely horrid (IMO). It diverts the wind and rain just over my helmet so I'm way more comfortable than I ever was before. I can happily ride around all day at 70mph with my visor open and not have any problems. Oh and it's very quick and easy to install or remove if I want to. My fella recommended I get one and he bought it for me. Love it! And he is so impressed by it he's just bought himself one

agree with those who posted that they use the removables...
around town i just pull it off and leave it with the bags in the garage. but on the road it is nice to have some protection from things that fly at you and from wind gusts (i still remember a coupla hundred mile ride into the wind before i had the shield- my neck was sore the next day!).
i like the look of my sporty without the shield, but the look with it doesnt really bother me

This is the screen my fella got me from ebay UK. Not sure if it's available in the States, but might be worth asking the seller what make it is?

Or, I did find this one listed in the States which looks pretty much the same

I prefer to go without a windshield. But, depending on the ergonomics of your bike (riding position) and your overall physical state, a windshield may not be a bad idea.
I can easily go 200+ miles without, so I haven't seen the need. From the few times I've used one (on test-rides, etc) I actually view them as dangerous for everyday riding. The windshield skews the view of the road ahead, making them only suitable to the highway.

The responses to this thread prove conclusively that only you can decide whether to use a windshield or not. I know it is tempting to assume that one of us has the ultimate wisdom on this subject. But, that is simply not the case. Even those who use a windshield do not agree on the best size, shape, material, brand, or mounting. Pay your
money and take your choice.
