Default Small, cheap & easy do it yourself CRANK CASE BREATHER

to go with my small, cheap & easy do it yourself air cleaner.

I started by drilling a hole through a 1" long 1/2-13 bolt and tapping the end 1/8" npt.

My original idea was to tap it 1/4" npt but the bolt diameter isn't big enough. But I had already ordered these 1/4" npt breather fittings

so I had to pick up these 1/4" to 1/8" reducing bushings.

Here it is assembled.

I'm going to order 1/8" npt breather fittings because I want to see what it looks like without the reducer bushing.

The whole deal was just a few bucks.

Thanks for looking.

Nice, but you have to stop, I am not gonna have enough time to keep up with your ideas before it is spring and time to pull the bike out for the season. :P

Ha ha...right on!

I don't like the reducing bushings in this one so I ordered 1/8" npt breather vents. Those should tidy it up nicely.

What size bit did you drill the hole thru the bolt with?

I started with 5/32 then 7/32 then finally 11/32.

The small pilot is necessary because you're essentially drilling through over 1" think material. When you step to the larger bit the shavings will be able to fall through the hole and out of the way.

You can go straight from the pilot bit to 11/32 but I like to step it to save my bits.

Looks clean and simple, but where doe's the blow-by oil go? Looks like a big mess waiting to happen.

If your oil level is appropriate you won't have blow by.
