I would rather run out of gas and push my bike than install an oversized tank like that. Post pics when you're done - I'll need a good laugh.
LMAO~ I was thinking the exact same thing... It won't look good, you can get away w 3.4 tank but a 6 gallon tank? C'mon now for that buy a "Touring" bike. It will kill the look, period!
Hadn't ever thought about it but I think I would like it. As far as looks I alreay have a batwing fairing and saddle bags plus sisy bar and sissy bar bag so I think it would look good on mine since I already have larger parts on it. I love the look of the big bikes just can't affort one.
Definitely a laffer! Let's see, an 883 which won't get less than 50 mpg no matter what you do and wants a 6 gallon tank? Maybe with some some 40" wide beach bars it will really look like a triangle. Maybe a wide screen GPS on top of the tank!
Bwana
Good lord...I nearly fell out of my chair on this one!
Don't forget the surround sound Blue Ray multimedia system too, with enhanced digital gear indicator that works in 73 languages, plus Klingon. That will keep you entertained while riding 300 miles before filling up. It's your bike, it's your money, do what you want.

good for the OP for doing something different. i used to own a sportster and when we went on longer rides, the touring bike guys would get mad having to stop for gas.

Which is why I will never again ride with anyone but my wife. We both have Sporties with 3.3 gal tanks, and we ride for pure enjoyment that drives the Touring crowd crazy. We ride an hour, find somewhere interesting to stop, drink water, eat some fruit, look around. Ride another hour, stop for fuel, use facilities. Then repeat until we get to where we are going or return home.
You're right, it drives the marathon riders insane, but we have covered 400-500 miles easily in a long day which is not bad for Sporties, and arrived in pretty good shape for folks our age (mid-60s). Plus we get to see a lot of neat stuff the marathon riders never get to see.
I know this is an old thread...
Fat Boy/Fat Bob/Street Bob tanks are around 4.8 to 5.2 gallon.
That would be a lot of work for very little gain.
I know somebody with a 6.2 gallon CVO Road Glide tank on his XR1200.
Built for 2012 & 2013 Hoka Hey Challenge after abusing his 2009 CVO Road Glide in the 2010 & 2011 events.
The owner of this bike also has:
-2005 CVO Fat Boy
-2008 Softail Deluxe with 103 kit
-2012 CVO Road Glide Custom
