(883 Question) Just how far?
#21
I don't know if you mean how many miles in one day or how many miles per trip over a number of days. Highway miles vs back roads/byways. Anyway, usually 8 hours a day is more than enough for me. I drive what I think I need to do to cover a certain distance toward my destination. Example: here to Lake George New york, one overnight-er. That is about 600 miles one way. I could probably do it in one day but that would be all highway and not sight seeing side trips with stops. Not my idea of fun. This year we are doing a 2 week, 3000 mile trip to Newfoundland, all on my sporty 883 custom.

Longest so far is probably a couple of hundred miles in one trip, but currently planning our summer trip down to the south of France, over the Millau Viaduct, across to the Alps and back up to England - about 1700 miles, maybe more depending on the routes we choose. Really looking forward to it (once my seat gets some extra padding)

How far you say! As far as you want to go. In 2009 I rode my 2001 883 Sportster just over 32,000 kms or just over 19,880 miles and in 2010 I rode 36,287 kms approximately 22,260 miles. Once you have your bike fitted for you the miles/kilometers just pass by. Our longest days have been 700 to 800 kms but our usual days ride is between 600 and 700 depending on the roads and the weather. Just get out there and ride.

i bought a 2004 883 in october. Took the bike from Litchfield Park, AZ up I-17 to Jerome. Went through Jerome, down 89a, to Prescott and back home, It was about a 6 hour ride (after some breakfast and needed breaks. It drove like a dream through all the switchbacks. I do believe it was over 300 miles and she was ready for more!

I really don't see any real limitation from the bike as to how far I would/can/have ridden my 883 other than my old body. My personal limitation seems to be about 100 to 120 miles before I have to stop and let these old bones get back into place and empty a kidney. By coincedence that also seems to be near the limit of the fuel supply also. I used to do 6 hour riding days with no problem but hope that since changing the seat I will be able to get a couple hours more a day this coming riding season.
