Ironheads are not hard to find parts for, you still have the tank and I've seen the bags, seat and windshield for sale on ebay. I found a beautiful stock seat for my 75 XLCH on ebay and didn't pay a fortune for it. The XLT Looks like the same thing as an XL with the tank, bags and windshield. But the cool thing is you've got the VIN to prove it's an XLT.

Cool bike, definitely save it! My uncle also has a '77, the odd thing being it's electric start only. Not even a place to install a kicker.

is his a XLT too? because mine only has electric start as well. i know that the xlt's came with electric only, but i think there was another model that year too....not sure which one. it might have been the XLCR

Hey Mike, there's a guy over on the XLF that has an XLT all refurbished, check it out, his screen name is ericfreeman.

From around '68 or '69 on, the XLCH was the only Sportster to have a kickstart. The XLH and its variants (like the XLT) were electric start only.

Oh, the other thing I should mention is that you should jump over to the ironhead section here too. A lot of the guys from the XLF hang out there as well.

Is your bike like the one pictured? I have a set of bags and a superglide/sprint tank that look like the ones in the photo. I do not know if the bags are Harley or aftermarket though. Man I love those pipes! To get any help from a dealer, you will have to find one thats been around for a while, like from the early seventies. Congrats on your find!
