There are others that are alot more comfortable and a lot less expensive...not to mention better quality....personally I sent my stock 48 seat off to Mean City Cycles to have the stock seat repadded with memory foam....had it done to my Road King and made all the difference in the world...and it only costs $100 and the turnaround is fantastic.

I did some research before got my spring seat and found that there are several out there that are of better quality and often priced lower than the $500 H-D one.

I got mine (and the mounting kit) from Rich Phillips Custom Cycles. ( http://www.bikersaddles.com/about.php ) He advertises on ebay as "mother road customs" and his prices are a bit better there.

His seat mounting kit is FAR better quality than H-D's and you have a choice of 3 different spring styles. My setup was around $360 complete.

I'm a big guy (5'11",260 lbs.) and this seat fits me fine and is comfy on the road...at least as comfy as one can be on a 48.

Without a doubt it will be, plus it will keep you on the seat instead of sliding off like many of us had problems with on the stock seats.

I bought mine with the spring seat included in the discount price
I got.
I like the spring seat over the stock one. GF has stock seat.
The rear shocks are like riding a bag of hammers, but I kinda like that

The spring seat really helps on bumps/rough spots in the road since there is only 1.63" of rear shock travel.

However, the spring seat is not "cushy" like a Mustang Vintage Solo or something similar. I had one of those on my Street Bob with the Mean City Cycles memory foam upgrade and it was REALLY comfortable. But to me it didn't look as retro/cool as the spring seat.
