here the problem i had with the short shots , seems i lost some low end and where damn hard to tune , yeah looks good and loud , but loud does not equal power . So since i do like vance and hines i went with the straight shots and there still loud and got some of my low end back...
I have python 3 on my 883c, I guess they do set off the odd car alarm but I assumed they were about the same as anything else. I plan to change to big radius vance and hines in time. Had drag specialties on the box when i got them.
I have to agree with the OP. I heard a Nightster with short shots and I was not impressed at all. My Martin Bro's sounded alot better with the baffles in then the short shots. V&H makes some nice looking stuff, but I'm not big on there sound.
Ok, you like what you like and don't like pipes that don't split your ears. BFD! I am not a fan of super-loud pipes, but feel they should have a deep, throaty rumble. That's what I got with mine. You don't like them? I don't care.
If you judge the quality of an exhaust system by how loud it is....well then you don't know $hit about exhaust systems. Any pipes can be loud. Just remove the baffles! duh! Now if performance is what you desire (like me and all others who are comfortable with their weenie size) than a quality 2 into 1 is the way to go. Any good wrench/engine builder will tell you that. Remember the song, "Girls just wanna have fun?" How about "Posers just wanna be loud!"
I agree with Clayvis. Loud doesn't mean faster. I have a V&H competition series 2-1 exhaust on my bike. It only made 128hp & 88tq. I keep the baffle in it and it is still plenty loud enough. The cops don't take to kindly to loud pipes. They will write you a fat ticket for them. Oh by the way I ride a 11 DX. I have had it to 140 plus with plenty left in it.
