I brought my 05 sporty to the dealer for my 1k service and wanted them to listen to a rattle in my starter, it sounds like something is loose inside when I tried to start the bike. They checked it out and told me the problem was the battery didnt have enough power to crank the starter fully so the noise was coming from a combination of that and the starter gear not meshing with a clutch gear(dealer said this is normal and nothing to worry about) (don't know if this is true). Anyway they told me to get a battery tender to make sure this doesnt happen and now the bike still has a rattle and sometimes wont even start when I shut the bike off for a few minutes then try to start back up. I just hear a clicking but no start, I just have to try it a few times and it starts up. I know I need to take it back to the dealer but wanted to know if anyone else had a similar problem.

sounds like a bad starter (which i doubt) or a loose connection which is more likely
