Default 2006 Salvage 1200 Custom

I picked up this bike for a friend at an auction and now I am left with the bike and no money. I am not familiar with Harleys and there going rates. This bike is a 2006 Sportster Custom with 3300 miles that was a theft recovery. The tank is dented on the left side along with some scratches on the clutch cover and rear shock. The handlebars are also bent a little. The bike runs and rides like new. Here is my question, how much does a salvage title depreciate a bike. With very little money this bike would be good as new. What would you say a fair price is for a bike like this? Thanks -- Jeremy

I'll give you 500$ for it, I'd give more but just bought one. The salvage title may not affect it much or hurt it alot, It will turn away lot of people right away, but if documented and pictures taken and then fixed properly I don't see how it could hurt the value much especially if going into spring and high gas prices, so regardless of what blue book tells you its only worth as much as someone will give you for it. just my 2 cents

In automotive circles, a salvage title drops value in half. Likely the same for bikes.

There are a few fixed salvage title bikes in my area that have been for sale for a long time. I know one of them is a 2006 1200 C with 150 miles on it. The seller has been asking around $6k for it and no one has taken it for at least the 2 months that I've been looking. It is repaired and looks good -- but the salvage title kills it.
For an unfixed S title, I would say $3k maybe.

my 03 king has a salvage title, and no dealer will touch it for trade.
it basically has NO book value

i tried to auction it on ebay, and high bid was 6000, so i kept it
bike looks and runs fantastic, just has a stigmata of a salvage title

once an inusurance co totals it and pays out, its over

mine is worth more in parts, so i'll ride it till its dead or gets stolen

how much did you pay for the sportster?

List it on Ebay. I always see a bunch of salvage bikes on there. There are a ton of bike shops that specialize in salvage bikes and you can get the market rate on ebay.
