I did this mod & absolutely LOVE it! I did it for the look, didn't care if the performance is better. I think it is great that knowledgeable people post this type of info. When I become more knowledgeable on Harleys, I will post some stuff. I bought my 1st bike this year & every day is a new learning experience! Thanks for all the help!

Question Bumping this thread, finally made my cheap air cleaner.

I did essentially the same thing as everyone else here, but - like Slider2010 - i already had the SE Heavy Breather on my bike, so no need for a carb mount bracket. It's a good intake, but i've grown tired of looking at it. It came on the bike when i bought it back in 2009 and it's time to change things up a bit.

I used the 3-holes in the SE intake to mark the holes on the 4", $12.99, AutoZone air cleaner after cutting the un-needed part off with a Porta-Band and using a die-grinder and a cutting disk to get it all flattened and smoothed out.

Here's how mine came out...

Now here is my question:

What is the "best" way to seal between the air cleaner and the face of the intake?

Hi-Temp RTV sealant...? store-bought gasket..??

I didn't feel like going all the way into town for a gasket so i used RTV for the time being.

So I just took the first step and bought the air cleaner from Autozone and gonna get DK's breather bolts next. My question is about the mounting bracket, does anyone know a good one? I was looking around online and came across a thread that showed one that cracked.

I have a similar setup using a K&N 56-1400. I love the look. I made a gasket using a piece of PVC left over after I made a shower pan. All I did was lay the back plate of the ax assembly on it to be used as a template and cut it with a utility knife. You could probably find some other material that is compressible it could be made with such as an old inner tube if you remember what those are. lol

Gotcha. Any one for a cv carb should work. I haven't heard of that bracket breaking.

Hi all

I have the 2002 carb model 883. Can anyone tell me if I need to put a washer in between the head and the carb bracket.

I'm also using Sifton canister breathers, and am not sure about which washers go where There is one metal, one plastic and one clear plastic for each breather bolt.

Third pic down on the left under the heading "No Hoses Required"

If any one can advise I'd be grateful.

Cheers

jak...

I've only come across one thread in another site that mentioned it and they recommended the one by nhrs, but it was a 7 year old thread. I wanted to get opinions from people who've done this and had them for a bit like you. Btw, which one do you have?
