I would like to know how it would be restrictive too.

The stock a/c on a EFI Sportster is closed on all sides and only has a 1"-2" opening to suck in air. I would think ANYTHING that is open 360* around would flow better than that.

Also, isn't the air cleaner mentioned in that thread made for a car with say a 2bbl or 4bbl carb.

A better filter MAY improve performance but IMO I can't see it being restrictive.

If I misunderstood the original point on this I apologize in advance.

I found this link in another thread linked from here. Anybody know the exact size of breather bolt a 07+ sportster would use?

http://www.mcmaster.com/#catalog/117/349/=nek3x2

These are significantly cheaper than DK or anybody else.

Good find! Would have never guessed McMaster-Carr would have these. I can't believe the price difference between McMaster and all the bike part vendors that sell them. What a mark up.
I bought several brass bolts from McMaster and machined them to use with a breather bracket that breathes back into the carb and mounted a K&N 56-1400 AC assembly for about 56 bucks from AutoZone. Cheap and looks killer.

I don't believe it is restrictive. PoPo you make a great point. There is easily as much intake as the stock breather, probably more. I've been running a 4" round mreed style AC for the last 3000 miles and if anything there's better performance than the stock AC, not less.

I have had the mreed conversion filter for about a year with 2 1/4" Sampson drag pipes and lollypops, bike accelerates and top ends like its *** is on fire, much better than stock. No flat spots due to the lollypops. Had to increase jetting to stop farting through carb. I ran my crank breathers to the ground, no 20-50 synthetic going into my top end! Or on my bike.

Default nightster air cleaner mreed mod

Mreed rocks had this done in no time and breather bolts are from "meadowsmoto" on ebay check them out. I had stage 1 air cleaner on before with the adequate download from the stealers and it seems to run just as good, if not better. I think I will attemp a tune myself with the se super tuner once i have the computer cables. ..09 nightster..

Don't regret it too much.

K&N Filter = $50
Breather bolts = $35
Bracket = $30
Autozone Kit = $15.

You're at $130 if you were to do the home made kit with the same components and you've got to put in atleast an hour of elbow grease. You spent an extra $50 bucks for a reputable air cleaner kit that took minutes to install.
