Small, cheap & easy do it yourself air cleaner (lots of pics)

The cardboard cut out is a great idea!
The K&N filter that is a direct replacement for the 6 3/8" one is part # E-3237

But I think this one would actually be better for performance

You'd have to get a longer bolt to hold the cover on. I would do it like the old school air cleaners on cars with a piece of 1/4" all-thread and a wing nut.

No I haven't messed with it. I haven't even taken it out of the box. I can install it this weekend and show you what I had to do if there's a difference.

Yea, my kit came with a gasket but i used it between the carb and carb mount.....i guess i could move it to the other side of the carb mount.
I think it's supposed to rain this weekend anyway so i think i'll just try some silicone.

Another Option
I found this online
http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=...t:429,r:13,s:0
It looks almost like the one from Joker Machine that costs $250 but this one is only like $30.
I just ordered it - hopefully it can be modified just like the other one....i'll let you all know how it turns out when i get it.

The fining(sp) on that looks pretty sweet but from the photo it seems like the back is tapered( http://www.vintagespeed.com/MVC-010F.JPG )with not much meat for it to be bolted up to the adapter. As with most anything though if you monkey around with it enough you can MacGuyver something to work. Good luck!
EDIT:
After scrolling down the page further I see this: http://www.vintagespeed.com/MVC-023F.JPG
If it looks like that on the back then you should be golden.

Hey mreed, will this carb mount fit my 2004 Sportster XL883 with the air cleaner you made?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tchlink:top:en
If so, will I still need the breather lines and fittings, or is this an all in one type mount? The description says I don't need all the extra, but I just want to check with an expert before I purchase it. Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!
