Buying a 2009 Sportster 1200 Low??
A friend of mine was looking at a 2009 Sportster Low tonight, the dealer is asking about 8k OTD. The bike has 7200 miles.... Nothing is customized, so it's all stock, and the Manu warranty ends in April....
What do you guys (or gals) think about this price and mileage? I think it's a lot, but then again I don't know much about negotiating? Does anyone have any opinions? Any help or advice would be great!!!
Thanks!!!

My 2009 1200 low is for sale, I got it in 2010, its got about 6000 miles on it, looks like new, has loads of extra's, progressive shocks, fork springs, sundown seat, better footpegs, hiway bars (adjustable, not on the bike at the moment) sissy bar (wife likes), shop manual, new oil filters, 3 different sets of handlebars, and other stuff.
I am asking $7000.00.
Its never been down, or even in the rain.
You can do better, but not at the dealers.
They likely gave the guy who traded it in $4000.00 or less.
I figure mine is not going to move till spring.
I had a bad crash dirt riding and got all busted up, and if I ride this summer (still have lots of pain) I want a smaller lighter bike.
Its more fun riding a slow bike fast, then a fast bike slow.

Well, I personally purchased two bikes already. My first was a yamaha vstar custom 650 so that I could learn on. After about 5 months, I was ready to upgrade. I purchased my nightster. Both purchased on Craigslist w/low miles. You'll be able to find lots of bikes available. There are a bunch of people who go out and buy a brand new bike then realize they want a bigger one, can't afford it or just have no desire to ride.
When I was looking at buying my Harley, I noticed that Dealers wouldn't negotiate much...(max 1,000). Before buying a used bike, definitely check the kelly blue book value.
Another option available: HD-Dealer Assist Program. most dealers can finance (private party purchases) through Harley Davidson financing and charge you for the transaction-$250-500. They take care of the paperwork if the seller still has a loan etc. it's a clean transaction and you don't have to worry about personally paying off his loan and hope and pray that the title gets mailed to you (when doing a private sale). you can add accessorries, extended warranty, finance your bike, etc. all under the dealer assist program.
We purchased a fatboy for my husband. The guy just wanted out of his loan and wanted his loan paid off. We looked at the bike, test drove it and met at the dealer. The process took a half hour. He had a loan, the dealer took the bike in as if they were purchasing it and sold it to us. We financed the loan and knew we would pay it off sooner than later. The process was clean. They offered us the option to finance the accessories, clothing etc. as well as purchase an extended warranty. Easy, peace of mind for $500! If we just paid off his loan and gave him the money, the title would be issued to him (because it's his loan) with-in 2 weeks. the process made us a little nervous, that's why we decided to do the dealer assist.
Good luck on the purchase. Ride Safe!

4 months ago i bought a 09 XL1200L sporty from the stealer with 5 miles on it (left over stock from 2009) for $9000 out the door, rode it home. And it came with a full warranty and service schedule as it was sold as brand new.
there is now way i'd pay 8k for a sporty with 7200 miles. unless it comes with hookers and beer and lots of it.
