Exclamation Sportster 2010 Speedo flashing fault

Hi all, i am new to this forum.
Over the weekend I disconnected the power to my 883C.
firstly, I removed the maxi-fuse whilst the ignition was on.
Removed the tank & seat to gain access to wiring harness.
Installed my relocate front turn signal kit & a HD tacho.
(found the tacho signal connection from other posts) located behind speedo.
Put everything back together & everything worked perfect.

went to take bike for a ride when i noticed the clock was flashing, 12:00.
Held down the reset push button & nothing happened.
disreguarded the problem & went for a ride 18km ride

Once home with my owners book, I tried to adjust the time.
But nothing still happened.

Pulsing the reset button, i don't even get the odometer reading nor any trip values.

12:00 continues to flash but everything is functioning correctly but on odometer.

I have monitored the engine / security indicators on speedo.
found that I have a historical fault.
Since then i have tried everything.
Powering down the bike & wait 10 minutes, holding reset p/button & turning ignition on.

Can any one help me with this fault.
Dealer is unfamiliar with error, so my last result will be to take bike to dealer after putting a few more km's on it (900km last read)

Thanks guy's
Malcolm, Australia.

Just have to hold it down longer and it will allow you to reset clock, might take maybe 5-10 seconds?

EDIT just reread...

So pushing button doesn't scroll through anything? Id say the clock/odometer is on a different circuit to everything else in speedo.

Did you try unplugging the connector to your tach and trying it again? Verify your connections. As far as I can tell, the connections to the speedo and tach are identical, the only difference is the push button on the speedo.

Hi guy's,

This morning I thought I'd double check my connections to the back of the speedo. Just for the sake of it, I'd check that I did not bump the reset conection.
Everything good there. Reset p/button is hard wired into switch. As I recall, these wires went into 1 big black plastic sleeve to a connector beneath the tank.
If the connection under tank was dodgy other things would be not working too.
with the tach disconnected from the system, the clock display still does not change.

Held reset button down with ignition on for 20 seconds & nothing happened.

Obviously this fault has triggered something & probably is going to require the dealer to fix it.

I'd check over everything you have done or fiddled with first. Maybe even try and disconnect tacho so it is as it was before. If its working, start connecting it back up and check up on clock regularly to make sure its still working? Visit to the dealer won't be cheap. It is possible for some things to work and not others as there is more than one wire under there.

HD 69829-06. Black face 2-5/8" tacho.

Yeh, may have to remove tank of 7 check grey wires for reset in the connector.
See if I can get continunity thru it.

I am not sure but that tach was designed for a carbed bike being the part number suffix is 06. I don't know if they changed anything for the EFI bikes or not. You might want to check on that. If you hooked up an older style tach signal wire to the serial data wire on the newer ones, you may have messed something up.

i dont think you fried it, its a neutral wire in its state. i would just try the old tach n if that works, return the new one if you can.
