Mines a '98 and It's a ton of fun. It may be a good idea to see if they will let you have a mechanic check it over though or at the least buy a compression tester and check the cylinders. Mine are 120 psi each. You can usually tell by looking at it what kind of maintenance has been done too it and how the owner acts when he is showing it to ya.

Having problems with my 99 Sportster 1200
So originally, I bought a new battery bc I thought that was the issue, but a few days later, the battery was dead once again. Did a few tests amd determined it was the stator. Had been running ok if it sat on the trickle charger for about half a day or so. Now, I went to fire it up this morning, with the battery fully charged and the the dash lights and head light won't even turn on at all. I checked my fuses and they're good, and I had my battery tested, which was also good. Any ideas of what could possibly be wrong ? I just bought this bike and I'm already at witts end with it ☹️

2. You are posting to a 12 year old thread so you may not get much response.
3. Might be better to start a new thread to get better response.
4. You tested and determined the stator was bad, did you replace it?
5. What about the voltage regulator, how did that test?
6. Could be the ignition switch or a broken/shorted wire. Without further information, you might want to take it to someone who works on Sportsters.
