Default Carb/Jetting Help

Ok I need some help. It seems no matter what i do this thing is running like ***. Now I can't even get to start unless i take the air clear off and stick my hand over the carb, then fuel comes flying out and it starts.

When i had the carb apart the slow jet was stripped and stuck (i don't even know the number on it.) the other jet was a 160. I replaced it with a larger one but for the life of me i cannot remember what size i put in there.

So i guess my question is....what size jets do i really need? I have a spare 42 jet sitting here so thats an option as long as it is not too big...

A little info on the bike

It's an 883, with pipes (no clue what they are but they are a straight pipe design) and i believe it is a different air cleaner but i am not sure, it does have a k&n air filter on it though

I have messed with the air fuel screw, hell it may be messed up too, i have a spare carb coming in i just want to put the proper jets in to start with

You have more than a jetting issue here.

Almost sounds like the slide is hung open.

start with the 42 pilot and a 170 main

The bike had issues running when i got it and it sat for a year. maybe i should just wait for the other carb. i need to pull this carb and see what the jet is.

someone also said the petcock could be shot and just pouring fuel. is this possible?

oh also i am not sure if it matters but i use 93 octane gas (i have no choice here)

ok well i got out the slow jet...an easy out and a little "love" and it came right out

The main jet that i put in there was a 175 I can order a 170 though not an issue

here are some pics

you can see here the freaking needle looks a little bent, will that cause an issue (i assume it would)

does anyone know what this little guy is? it was in my little baggy of extra parts... didn't come off this carb but it is from a carb

i assume this is how the bowl is supposed to react lol

yes the bent needle will cause a problem, that little guy looks to be a float needle seat, by tapping your float like that you could risk throwing your float height adjust ment out generaly its not a good idea to do that jus sayin

The float level is off by a mile !

The little fella is a bushing out of the top cover under the cable bracket !

The bent needle is an issue and i dont think you can buy it separatly although CV Performance sells one.

You really need the manual to adjust the float.

The adj is like .437 with the carbed tipped at a 20 degree angle
