My ENT has an audiologist and I had custom earplugs made for $60. Best $60 I ever spent.

Sorry about your hearing. But, since I am new at riding I want to preserve my hearing. When I am in church, I can hear a mouse **** on cotton. I want to keep it that way. I stand firm on the custom ear plugs!

As another poster said, a windshield can either reduce or increase noise and a full face helmet will help but not eliminate the noise. Some full face helmets are noisier than others my Arai Vector is the quietest helmet that I have owned but I still use Etymotic ear buds that really do reduce the noise.

Do what Ted Nugent did his whole life on stage blastin volume levels
that would make a straight pipe sporty compair to a poodle bark...

He kept One ear plug in at all times so he could go hunting and still hear
and so he could hear when he got old..

I use the cheap foam ear plugs and adjust how much I hear by how
deep/tight I Insert the ear pugs XD

How many of you guys remember "Stranglehold" and "Cat scratch Fever" ??
If you haven't pissed off yer whole neighborhood playin those two classics
on at least a 250 watt Marantz and a set of Bose 901's Yer still wet behind the ears XD

Foam ear plugs work fine for me and they are a lot cheaper than custom , plus they get a little funky you throw them away and get another clean pair . Foam or custom plugs are not intended to stop the noise , they cut it down quit a bit plus it stops the whistling directly in your ears . This noise bothers me considerable at hi-way speeds and I find even a 3/4 helmet makes it bearable , don't remember this wind problem from my riding days when all I wore was a full face helmet .

Foam ear plugs...as above. Inexpensive from Rite Aid, Longs et al and just toss when dirty.

I bought this faceshield for my Daytona 3/4 and it helped cut a significant amount of noise plus it helped keep the helmet from creeping up my forehead at highway speeds.

Trade Sporty for bagger/touring & add lower fairings, taller shield, fork baffle & wear FF helmet...

I tried the foam plugs, but didn't like muffled sound (actually seemed louder) so I'd recommend custom ear plugs (like others advise). Its probably your best bet...unless you take my 1st recommendation...

Once you have a properly adjusted windshield, there will be a lot less noise, but be forewarned, you may really like it and not want to go back to riding without a windshield. I hate sticking anything in my ear for extended periods of time - I can't even stand having i-pod earphones in. I have an under armour head beanie that is thin, light, warm, and covers my ears nicely... this helps a lot with wind noise as well.
