What year is yours? And do/did you have any clearance issues? I went with 13.5 412s on my 09 883 and was told you have to be careful as the drive belt may touch the muffler support.. Mine is very close when the shock is fully extended, but does not seem to touch..

My set up is similar to 1200c's, I went with 13.5" Progressive 412 shocks and a 1" lowering kit. I also installed Progressive front springs. Nice improvement to overall comfort with minimal increase in ride height.

I originally had the 12" Progressives and noticed little increase in comfort. They may be better than stock but when you have little room for travel there's only so much you can do with even the best shocks.

Higs, when up on a jack my lower shock mount bolt is about 1/16th inch from the muffler, it has never touched the muffler. I understand that the 1200R had 13.5" shocks but had a dent in the muffler. A guy said that on here but I've never seen that. I don't think an Iron has 13.5" shocks as stock. Unless Euro bikes come with them, they come with taller gearing I know.

Bad, I have LAChopppers one inch lowerng blocks but removed them as they made the ride harsher. I think because of the decreased leverage at the shock.

so im lost, on a '11 883 iron what length do the 412's give the same clearance as stock?
Or more to the point, what is the stock length of the 883's?

http://www.progressivesuspension.com/productsearch.aspx

Go here and enter your data, your stock length will be in yellow.

This might be yours, they list the 883N as 11" and the 883L as 11.5", go figure.

If you go shorter you need stiffer,,,
with minimal shock travel like less than 2" of most lowerd bikes
consider this,,1/3rd is lost In sag,,so,,
with only 1 1/2 Inches or so Its gonna take a MUCH stiffer spring
to resist bottoming out.
The choice Is simple,,,
Low and hard or tall and soft
We choose looks or handling,,to each His own XD

Hey Oz, it was simple for me, I hate the slammed look, it makes bikes look like sway backed 18 wheeler trailers that are broken. I learned my suspension setting up from owning a MAICO in the 70s, nobodies suspension worked better than theirs. More is better.
