I actually had someone cut the buckle and steal my helmet. I got back and the buckles were just dangling. Since then, I figure if someone wants it that bad, they can have it.

Gun cable locks work great for me; small enough to fit within the jacket inside pocket.
If you want to avoid the cop shop you can check out Amazon:

Guess no one wants to steal my stuff.
Ive had my 1/2 skid lid since 1986, and I always leave it on top of the sissy bar, and my gloves behind the windshield, a top the triple tree.

No one has ever bothered them.

I use a 4' word lock (cable lock) - it was the shortest one I could find at the time. When not in use, I have it dangling on my (rear) signal light - the lock faces down and hasn't scratched my fender.

The LOCKITT .com site reference above seems to offer great options.

Personally I carry a Kyrptonite bike lock that I use to secure a full face helmet (around the chin panel) to the fork tube.

I have a stylish helmet and a vandal could cut the strap if they really wanted the shell....hence the secure with chin.

Never had a helmet stolen in 40+ years. Not that I wear one that often.

Same here. Of course when my bike is parked, its usually around other bikes that look like they belong to some axe murdering **** that would gut you if you touched them....LOL

Its all just looks though, we are a buncha teddy bears.

Had a helmet lock on the bike I rode in college. Came out one day and someone had cut the strap and then just laid the helmet on the ground next to the bike. Guess it just pissed them off. Have never locked a helmet since. But mainly cause none of the bikes I've had since then have had helmet locks on them.
