Default Stator packed it in at 87,000 miles

I just finished replacing my stator. It took about 6 hours start to finish. I got the stator from Parts Canada for $130 shipped over night. The most difficult part was routing the wiring past the oil lines. I didn't replace the rotor because it looked ok.

It must be the colder weather up there that makes them last so long. I'm on my 4th stator at 66,000 miles.

Wanabe, a stator is the motorcycle version of an alternator. I think the next time I have to change the stator, will take less time. Hopefully I'll get another 87k on this one.

cHarley - Why do you think they're giving up so soon?? Seems, like on a car, they should last 100 k or so. What's giving out on them?

IMO, it's poor construction quality. All of mine failed the same way, with one of the winding wires simply breaking off at the point it exited the last turn on the final coil. I suspect it's metal fatigue caused by vibration.
