IMO, it's poor construction quality. All of mine failed the same way, with one of the winding wires simply breaking off at the point it exited the last turn on the final coil. I suspect it's metal fatigue caused by vibration.
Were they Cycle Electrics that were shitting the bed or OEM?
Whats your ratio (brands) of the 4?

All of the failures were HD - OEM. I found out about Cycle Electric after getting pissed off when the last OEM stator failed and I started looking for alternatives. I don't have any proof that the Cycle Electric will be any better, but I don't see how it can be any worse than the OEM crap and figure it's worth a try.

Yea, I also went Cycle Electric this time. With their rectifying regulator......I guess time will tell.
Not yet. When the last stator failed, I was 2 days away from leaving on a trip to NC and didn't have time to order the parts in for the repair, so I had to settle for another POS OEM. But, I'll be ready to install the 3 phase system when this one takes the next inevitable dump.
I went with the standard stator this time......didn't have the cash for the 3 phase. =\
